We purchased our 2014 Palomino Puma we call True in June of 2020. Within three weeks we booked our first camping trip. Being first time travel trailer owners, we didn’t want to pull it far from home.  Lake Livingston State Park checked all of the boxes for us – close to home, full hookups, on a lake, and more!

Location

Lake Livingston State Park is located about an hour north of Houston in deep east Texas. Lake Livingston is one of the largest lakes in Texas. We stayed two nights in the Piney Shores area which offers full hookups. We were in site 58 which is across the street from the lakeside campsites.  Site 58 was concrete, flat, and wide. It was spacious and distanced from neighboring campsites. All of the sites in Piney Shores looked to be good sites.

If you happen to get a lakeside lot, you are up the hill from the lake, not right on it. There is a walking trail and fishing area below the lakeside lots.  It makes for beautiful views of the sunset.

A few tips to remember when camping in Texas during the summer include:
  • Bring bug repellent, you are going to need it.
  • The hours 11 AM to 7:00 PM are HOT! Plan for shaded activities and drink plenty of water.
  • Bring a fan. It will keep you cool and deter bugs.
  • Wear clothing that breathes and wicks away moisture.  East Texas is hot AND humid. The thermometer might say 94 but it feels like 105 degrees.
Our stay at Lake Livingston State Park was enjoyable. We would recommend this park to others. I also recommend purchasing the Texas state park pass.  You receive half off the second night for every two consecutive night stay.  Also, the day use fees are waived for adults aged 13+.  The $70 annual pass fee paid for itself after our second camping trip. If you plan to camp in Texas state parks more than twice per year, you definitely want to purchase the pass.

I hope this helps you plan your trip to Lake Livingston State Park.  Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog so you do not miss a single post.

Wherever the trail leads, may God bless you each step you take.
